Freestanding Tubs
This type of tub is especially popular in victorian homes and in modern homes with large bathrooms. The clawfoot tub is a popular example
because it sits anywhere in the room on its own special feet. Of course they aren't portable as they do have a permanent water source, but when
first deciding where you want it, the choices are pretty much limitless. You aren't dictated by the length or ability of any particular wall as
this tub will sit in the middle of the room if you want.
Most people think of them as the older vintage style tub, but in fact there are many modern designs available if your decor doesn't match with
the victorian look.
You do not have to get this tub in while, it also comes in brushed nickel finishes, as well as those with wooden supports. Antique finishing
is popular, but certainly not required. These tubs can have square corners or the traditional round or oval shape. They come in standard, short
and long lengths.
Prices can range signficantly from $1500 to well over $20,000, which is incredibly high, but it does depend on the uniqueness, construction
and finish. Those which are handmade fetch a much higher price and a more customized look.
Can you take a shower in one of these? Amazingly yes. You can put up a circular shower curtain rod to hang above the tub, and of course hook
up your water supply. As long as the curtain circles the tub completely then no water escapes. In very large bathrooms where there's more of a
bathing area you can skip the curtain altogether and have the water run out and down to a drain in the floor. It all depends on the design.
